Freedom Friday

Since starting this blog I have stayed away from posting too much on my political views.  My husband and I have always enjoyed conversations that are political in nature.  I hate politics in the "grab for power, say one thing & do another" aspect.  However, I am very interested in what our constitution says, and how we live and abide by it.  I would say I am patriotic.  I have traveled the world, been to over 15 different countries, and I do not apologize for being an American.  I am sometimes ashamed of my fellow Americans and their actions, but overall I am proud to be an American and thank God for the Freedom we have here.

In the current economic climate and all of the political happenings going on right now, I've begun to think it is even more important to understand our Rights.  To understand where our tax money goes.  To not sit idly by, while others make decisions that will directly affect my life and the lives of my children and grandchildren.  I have not done anything but watch, listen, and mull things over in my mind.  I have felt like what I say won't be heard.  I feel like our best interests aren't being thought of.  I felt like there is nothing I can do....so why bother?  Well, if everyone has that attitude where will that lead our country?

Many of us our busy in our daily grind.  Soccer and Ballet practices, rush hour, dinner, kids to bed, then our evening news or sitcom.  Surely we enjoy these freedoms.  What happens when people are complacent?  When we are asleep at the wheel?  Well, usually we crash....so on that note, I figured I would start a little something...again I'm not super consistent with things, but Friday's seem like as good a day as any and I've got the whole "f" thing working for me today.

There are A LOT of things going on up there in Washington D. C. and A LOT of nothing being done, and A LOT of posturing, A LOT of politicizing, pandering and power grabbing going on.  On BOTH sides of the isle.  Some very important legislation is being discussed and we parents and bloggers should weigh in.  I'm going to figure out how.   I know I'm just one small voice, but if enough of us join together and start voicing our concern for our country, we might get heard.

Just so you know, I lean to right of middle.  You may not, and I still like you if you don't think the same way I do.  Just don't be offended when I share my opinion.  I plan on doing this as graciously as possible.  Feel free to share yours in the comment section.   It's important to be well informed on both sides of an issue.  As a mom, I want to begin to better understand  my rights and who is making decisions on my behalf in D. C.  The plan is, to weigh in with my reps through email or otherwise on a regular basis.

My project this week will be to create group emails for my representatives, so that I can easily email them with my opinions on how I believe they should vote.  I'll also be searching for more ways I can make my voice heard as a ordinary citizen.  Would you like to join me?

Here are a couple of websites where you can find out who represents you in what state and how to contact them.

I like this post, I like to hear your thoughts on these matters. I am not as informed as I could be on political matters, and so I enjoy hearing the opinion of someone who is well informed and passionate about it. You talked about your opinion, but didn't elaborate too much, I'd like to hear more;)

First of all... CUTE blog design. Is this the final one?

Second... I agree. It can be easy to think we individuals don't matter much. But our country is only a collection of individuals. So, I've been writing to my reps more often, too. Letting them know where I, as their constituent, stands on issues. How can represent me if they don't know how I believe?

Way to go!

Appreciate the post. Since this last election I tried really hard to stay up on all the issues and have begun writing my representatives. I want to show my kids how government works and that "we" have to be responsible for holding our elected officials (on all sides) responsible. Thanks!
